The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has officially released its Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening form for the 2026/2027 academic session. Application commenced on Friday May 22, 2026, and closes on Friday July 31, 2026. If you chose FUTO as your first choice or are planning to change institution to FUTO, your window is open right now.

Admission is competitive — especially in the technical schools — so understanding the cut-off marks and registration process early gives you a real edge.

Who Is Eligible to Apply

Before you register, confirm you meet every requirement:

  • You scored a minimum of 150 in the 2026 UTME — this is the general minimum cut-off to be eligible to apply
  • You chose Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) as your first choice institution in JAMB
  • You are at least 16 years old by September 30, 2026
  • You have a minimum of five O'Level credit passes including English Language and Mathematics in subjects relevant to your chosen course

> Didn't choose FUTO as first choice? Candidates who did not choose FUTO as the university of first choice but scored a minimum of 150 can still apply — on the condition that they visit JAMB CAPS and change their institution to FUTO on or before July 31, 2026.

---

Important Deadlines for 2026

These dates are firm — FUTO does not grant extensions:

| Milestone | Date | |---|---| | Registration opens | May 22, 2026 | | Registration closes | Friday July 31, 2026 | | O'Level upload deadline on JAMB CAPS | August 17, 2026 |

> Do not wait until the last week. Portal congestion near deadlines causes technical issues that have cost many candidates their admission in previous sessions.

Log in with JAMB details — Use your JAMB Registration Number to access the application portal 3. Fill in required information — Complete your personal profile and course details. Ensure that your details on JAMB CAPS match exactly what you enter on the Post-UTME application portal — any mismatch will disqualify your application 4. Generate payment invoice — Create a Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) for the ₦2,000 screening fee 5. Pay the fee — Pay online via debit card or print the invoice and pay at any commercial bank 6. Complete registration and print slip — Finish your application and print your FUTO Post-UTME registration slip — keep this safe 7. Upload O'Level results on JAMB CAPS — Candidates must upload their O'Level results on JAMB CAPS not later than August 17, 2026

> One critical rule: Only candidates whose department of choice on JAMB CAPS is the same as on their Post-UTME application will be considered for admission. Double-check this before submitting.

FUTO Cut-Off Marks for All Courses 2026/2027

FUTO uses a three-tier cut-off system. Your minimum eligible JAMB score depends on which school your course belongs to.

Courses with Cut-Off Mark of 150

  • School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology — all courses
  • School of Biological Sciences — Botany, Zoology, Biology
  • School of Environmental Sciences — Architecture, Environmental Technology, Surveying and Geoinformatics, Quantity Surveying, Urban and Regional Planning
  • School of Physical Sciences — Chemistry, Geology, Geophysics, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics

Courses with Cut-Off Mark of 170

  • School of Information and Communication Technology — Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Data Science
  • School of Management Technology — Accounting, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Hospitality Management

Courses with Cut-Off Mark of 200 and Above

  • School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET) — Civil, Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum Engineering and more — minimum 200
  • Medicine and Surgery — candidates applying for Medicine and Surgery are required to score 200 or above in JAMB to be eligible for Post-UTME screening

> Important: Departmental cut-off marks — the final aggregate scores required for admission — are determined after the Post-UTME screening based on how candidates perform. Meeting the JAMB minimum gets you into the screening; your final aggregate determines whether you actually get admitted.

---

How FUTO Calculates Your Aggregate

The 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening exercise shall be based on verified JAMB scores and O'Level results uploaded on JAMB CAPS. FUTO does not conduct a separate CBT exam — your admission is determined by your JAMB score combined with your O'Level performance.

This makes your JAMB score extremely important at FUTO. Unlike universities with a 50:50 JAMB/Post-UTME formula, FUTO's screening leans heavily on your UTME performance. The higher you scored, the stronger your position — especially in competitive schools like Engineering.

Tips to Strengthen Your FUTO Admission Chances

  • Score well above your school's minimum. Meeting exactly 150 or 170 puts you at the bottom of the pool. Aim as high as possible above the threshold for your school.
  • Upload your O'Level results on JAMB CAPS early. The August 17 deadline is the final cut — if your results aren't uploaded by then, you will not be considered regardless of your JAMB score.
  • Verify your JAMB CAPS department matches your Post-UTME application. This is the most common reason candidates get disqualified at FUTO. Check it twice before submitting.
  • Ensure your subject combination is correct. Each candidate must ensure that their JAMB subject combination is as prescribed in the JAMB brochure for the programme applied for.
  • Get past questions for your relevant school. Even though FUTO's screening is not a CBT, preparing with subject-specific past questions sharpens your understanding. You can find past question materials from verified student sellers on ShopCart.ng.
